The Position

We are seeking a Pilot Plant Manager to join our team. This role will report to our Director of Operations. This position will oversee the day-to-day operations of Air Company’s carbon dioxide conversion plant and will be responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the production processes to meet company goals. Experience with operating compression equipment, chemical reaction systems, distillation systems, or other pressure equipment, as well as production optimization, is a must. This role is based in Brooklyn, NY.

What you get to do

  • Safely optimize lab and pilot plant tests to achieve maximum efficiency and output, while maintaining quality standards.
  • Work with RD&E and outside vendors to design and implement the pilot plant testing equipment to ensure the high quality and high accuracy tests supporting the technology development
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the pilot plant, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Oversee the production of prototypes and small-scale reactions for research and development purposes.
  • Schedule and coordinate campaigns to meet project deadlines.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot equipment and process issues, coordinating maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Lead a team of technicians and engineers, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Foster a collaborative and safety-conscious work environment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback for team members' development.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve engineering processes for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality.
  • Collaborate with Research & Development/Engineering teams to scale up new processes from lab to pilot plant scale.
  • Implement best practices and innovative technologies to enhance capabilities.
  • Ensure product quality through rigorous testing and adherence to quality control procedures.
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures and other relevant industry standards.
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions as necessary.
  • Manage budget and resources efficiently, optimizing costs while maintaining operational excellence.
  • Procure necessary materials and equipment, working with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, production data, and expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and permits, including safety, environmental, and health standards.

What you bring to AIR COMPANY

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a pilot plant or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of process engineering and equipment operation.
  • Proven experience in operating chemical reaction systems or other pressure equipment in a production environment.
  • Strong understanding of production optimization techniques and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to chemical manufacturing.
  • Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Bonus Points

  • Prior experience in gas to liquids operations or research and development.

Salary Range: $110,000 - $135,000
