Avalanche is a Seattle-based start-up developing extremely energy-dense fusion microreactors for clean power generation. Our small design allows us to iterate on components in days, build tons of hardware onsite, and apply game-changing fusion power to applications from deep sea vehicles to maritime transport, to lunar surface power. We are seeking an energetic, high-judgement technical recruiter to join our team.

The ideal candidate will self-motivated, organized and energized by building a world class team of scientists, engineers and all the talented, enabling people that it requires. The nature of the job will require frequent collaboration to help identify weaknesses and strengths to help build and craft our team.

We want to build a team that not only loves the mission but loves the tools and the people we work with to make it happen. This is a critical role that will help us clean up the planet and change the course of humanity.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Meet with hiring managers and company leaders to discuss headcount, new requisitions, hiring strategy, staffing priorities, and providing interview feedback.
  • Help create talent sourcing, interviewing, hiring and onboarding processes to bring in the best, brightest, most energized team members possible.
  • Help create the culture and expectations of candidates from first contact through onboarding.
  • Give tours to candidates, showcasing the remarkable technology we are building at Avalanche.
  • Source candidates: we recognize some of the best candidates are not the individuals necessarily looking for a job change.
  • Work with recruiters to get the best people.
  • Present candidates to hiring managers and providing a means to objectively and fairly assess options.
  • Host hiring training for managers and interview team members, as well hosting retrospectives and post-interview reviews.
  • Take ownership of the hiring process from agreement on need through onboarding- drive it to completion!

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1 year or recruiting experience; or associate degree and 2 years of experience; or 3 years professional experience as a recruiter.
  • Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends as required to meet our hiring plan requirements.
  • Ability to multi-task and operate with little direction while maintaining active engagement with the team.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with candidates and hiring managers.
  • Ability to distinguish top 5% talent from the rest.
  • Ability to inspire and excite candidates about the amazing work we are and will be doing at Avalanche.
  • Passionate about company culture; what makes a super high-performing technical team that is also a rewarding, fun and exciting place to work.
  • Confident enough push on senior team members to get work done, yet humble enough to listen to anyone’s feedback.
  • Ability to work on-site in our Tukwila, WA office (hybrid work conditions will be considered on a case-by-case basis).
  • While you will get significant support on your efforts, you are expected to show initiative, take ownership, exhibit a controlled sense of urgency and drive tasks to completion.
  • Resistant to hiring fatigue; hiring the right individual is often more important than filling it right away!

Bonus Skills or Experience:

  • Experience in early-stage companies engaged in hard or deep tech such as nuclear, new space, electric vehicles, aviation etc.
