About Charm
Our mission is to reverse climate change and return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO₂, profitably. We convert waste biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into permanent, underground storage as carbon removal, or reform the bio-oil to produce syngas for fossil-free steel.
Our carbon removal pathway took off in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify & Microsoft. In 2021 and 2022 we delivered thousands of tons of carbon removal via off-the-shelf pathways, and also deployed our first R&D prototype pyrolyzer of our own. In the next 18 months, we'll build and deploy the next pyrolyzer revision, demonstrate our fossil-free ironmaking pilot, substantially expand our operations in Colorado and put thousands of tonnes of CO₂e underground.
We're looking to expand our team of ambitious creative and hands-on engineers, fabricators, operators, and forward-thinking humans. We value psychological safety and collaboration. We take calculated risks and don't sweep mistakes under the rug; instead, we pin them to the wall and learn from them. We value that everyone’s unique backgrounds and perspectives shape their work. We encourage you to read our company values.
Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!
About the Role
Charm is a leader in the carbon removal field, and as we scale, ensuring that the best available science on biomass utilization is incorporated into our practices, and disseminated across the rest of the bio-economy, is paramount to achieving our ultimate climate ambitions. This role will be critical to ensuring that Charm’s approach is effectively and responsibly represented in the increasingly intersecting markets of CDR and biomass utilization, and to establishing partnerships in local and national agricultural communities.
The Agriculture and Forestry Policy Lead will be Charm’s internal biomass expert, working across the policy, operations, and R&D teams on a diverse array of issues. This includes shaping biomass sourcing standards and best practices that are both practical and sustainable, both internally at Charm and through legislation, policy, and thought leadership. The Agriculture and Forestry Policy Lead will also work closely with the research team to support the development of government and academic research projects, and lead the strategy for the subsequent dissemination of results. Critically, in this role, you will also support the development of Charm’s Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) protocols with respect to biomass carbon accounting. As Charm’s operations scale, the Agriculture and Forestry Policy Lead will also play a critical function in engaging with the local agricultural communities in which we operate.
This role can be based in San Francisco, CA or Fort Lupton, CO with some occasional travel required, and reports to Charm’s Head of Policy and Market Development.

  • Contribute to/author RFPs for sustainable biomass procurement
  • Manage relationships and coordinate outreach with a wide range of ecosystem partners
  • Support ongoing technical and policy research, serving as the link between the research team, policy team, and outside experts and partners

  • 7+ years of experience in agriculture or forestry policy or advocacy
  • Familiarity with the carbon accounting and life cycle analyses for biobased products, including the GREET model and similar
