Job Summary:
The Senior Grant Writer will be responsible for leading the development and execution of grant proposals and applications to secure funding for Phoenix Tailings' clean mining and metals production initiatives. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of successfully securing grants from various funding sources and will possess excellent writing and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and identify relevant grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other funding sources.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including the executive team, project managers, and subject matter experts, to gather information and develop compelling grant proposals.
- Write and prepare grant applications, ensuring compliance with all requirements and guidelines set by funding organizations.
- Manage the full grant lifecycle, including proposal development, submission, reporting, and compliance.
- Develop and maintain relationships with funding organizations, stakeholders, and partners to facilitate ongoing funding opportunities.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, funding opportunities, and best practices in grant writing and fundraising.
- Monitor and track grant activities, deadlines, and deliverables to ensure timely submission of proposals and reports.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior grant writing team members, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in a relevant scientific field, such as Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant writing, preferably in a deep science startup environment or a research-intensive setting.
- Proven track record of successfully securing grants for deep science research and development projects from government agencies, foundations, and other funding sources.
- Strong understanding of the scientific methodologies and technologies utilized in deep science startups, particularly in areas such as material science, chemistry, or related disciplines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to translate scientific research and innovation into compelling grant proposals that meet the specific requirements and guidelines set by funding organizations.
- Knowledge of the funding landscape and trends in deep science research and development funding, including an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in securing grants for deep science startups.
- Familiarity with grant management software and databases commonly used in the scientific research and startup communities.
- Passion for advancing scientific knowledge and contributing to the growth and success of a deep science startup.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple grant projects simultaneously within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Note: While a PhD is preferred, individuals with master's degrees and significant experience in deep science research and grant writing may also be considered.
