About the role
Toucan exists to unlock climate action at scale and transition the world towards an economy that thrives within the planetary boundaries.
To achieve this we’re seeking a Senior Protocol Engineer with a diverse range of skills and experiences to join our team and accelerate our mission.
At Toucan, you’ll be a key figure in driving the development, design, and optimization of the protocol and smart contracts for our decentralized applications. You’ll also contribute to creating tools and products that empower our users and partners to manage and offset carbon emissions, and enable the building of new applications on top of the Toucan Protocol.
And finally, you’ll work collaboratively on devising new features for our platform and/or partnering with industry leaders on climate action initiatives. Your expert knowledge of Solidity and blockchain principles will be instrumental in delivering robust, efficient, and secure solutions.
Design, write, test, and maintain complex smart contracts in Solidity.
Collaborate with the team on cutting-edge technical solutions to challenging problems in protocol architecture and distributed systems design.
Lead in identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving smart contract-related issues.
Advise and coach other developers on the team.
Guide architectural decisions related to contract development, ensuring robustness, efficiency, and security.
Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies in blockchain and smart contract development.
Experience and skills
10+ years of experience in software development
2+ years of experience in Solidity development with a track record of projects deployed to an EVM mainnet
Extensive experience using git for version control, and GitHub or similar for code review, best practices in repo management and ownership of tasks in a lean, agile workflow
Deep understanding of blockchain principles, decentralized applications, and system architecture and security, with proven ability to make strategic architectural decisions
Experience with Ethereum development tools (e.g. automated testing, OpenZeppelin, ethers.js, Hardhat, Foundry, debuggers, mainnet forking, static analysis, contract verification, gas analysis)
Strong knowledge of token standards such as ERC-20, ERC-721, ERC-1155, and other common smart contract standards
Strong knowledge of EVM internals
Experience with web3 wallets and multisigs (Gnosis Safe)
Experienced in DevOps and CI/CD, and deployment systems
General understanding of the DeFi landscape
Good availability in time zones UTC-6 to UTC+2
Nice to have
Experience with web3 oracles
Experience with thegraph.com
An understanding of the voluntary carbon market and climate impact space
You are expected to independently handle intricate smart contract tasks, guide architectural decisions, and lead in resolving contract-related issues. Meeting or exceeding these expectations will be reflected in the robustness, efficiency, and security of our protocol and smart contracts.
